The photography gallery contains some images I took while hiking around Southwestern Pennsylvania and some images of the Flight 93 Temporary Memorial in Shanksville, PA.
The Flight 93 Temporary Memorial project happened by chance. I was in the area to photograph a covered bridge. On the way to the bridge I noticed a sign for the Memorial. So I decided to take a few shots of the bridge and then stop at the memorial on my way home.
It's a small memorial, but it has a presence all to itself. Visitors trying to make sense of what had happened leave messages and tokens of appreciation, anger, and healing.
I ended up going back several times to photograph. It's always changing. Something new is added, something fragile is put away for safe keeping. The project has evolved into a photo documentary. I plan on going back periodically to photograph the changes.
The events of 9/11 are no longer just a surreal news story.
